Letter from the President
Dear Airstreamers,
Welcome to Airstream.com, the award-winning website that is your portal to all things silver. This site is the best and most accurate way to keep up with the goings-on at the company. And there is a lot going on! This year represents a major milestone in Airstream history, our 75 th model year. When we consider of how very few companies ever see this anniversary we are in even greater awe of our founder, Wally Byam, whose passion for design, quality and innovation led to the creation of an American icon. So how do we recognize this rare event? With a look both to our past and to our future.
First, we have commissioned the creation of the definitive written history of the company. This outstanding tome, Wanderlust – Airstream at 75, was written by Russ Banham, whose meticulous research into the people, products, and culture that surround the brand left no stone unturned. All purchasers of a 2006 Model Year unit will receive a copy, or visit our online store to buy one of your own. You won’t be disappointed.
Second, we have commissioned the creation of a Limited Edition 75 th Anniversary Trailer. This 19’ beauty is the brainchild of David Winick, a designer and trailer restorer whose stunning work on his own 1968 Caravel made it clear that he was the man for the job. Only 75 of these numbered units will be produced, so act quickly.
And finally, looking to our future, we are proud to introduce BaseCamp, the Airstream for a new generation of enthusiasts. This lightweight, stylish trailer represents a radical new design direction, but makes good use of the aluminum and rivets that are the essence of every Airstream trailer.
But, ultimately, Airstream is about people: the people here at the company who build our wonderful products and those on the road living the Airstream lifestyle. Our greatest debt is to them.
And, finally, if your travels ever bring you near Jackson Center, Ohio, please stop in and say hello. Our on-site campground and daily tours make it a place worth visiting.
Travel well,
Bob Wheeler
